[Remarks by Director]

Like a seed quietly germinating in the earth,
like a gaze that suddenly lights up in the dance—
these are our moments of “heartbeat.”

Launched in 2023, The Nanshan Dancing Train has been a three-year artistic journey.
On 14 May we placed the final period to that chapter at Weiwuying in Kaohsiung with a performance of ALICE—and in every participant’s heart we planted a small seed of dance, of dreams, of possibility.

Over these three years B.DANCE, together with Nanshan, visited seven rural elementary schools across Taiwan—from the mountains of New Taipei to the fields of central and southern Taiwan. Through movement, rhythm, and storytelling we spoke with children. We didn’t bring only ALICE’s fantasy; we brought our belief in dance education—an understanding beyond language, a pathway to deeper feeling, a light that reveals each child’s potential.

As a choreographer, I’ve always believed that art should not be scenery locked behind high walls; it should bloom beside everyone. In places where resources are scarce, the appearance of art is often a beam of light—giving children the courage to see themselves and the power to imagine the world.

Although this journey has concluded, our mission continues. B.DANCE will keep cultivating the soil of dance education so that every classroom visit, every step into a community, every spotlight onstage becomes an act of bringing art into people’s hearts.

A New Chapter Opens on 20 May

Flowing — our brand-new annual work premiering in November 2025 — opens for early-bird tickets on 20 May.
We chose 5 / 20, a date that resonates with the phrase “I love you” in Mandarin, to invite you to claim a seat at this contemporary feast of “time, emotion, and the currents of life.”

Our wish is to make “watching B.DANCE’s annual production” the trendiest, unmissable ritual of the arts calendar—just as every change of season deserves to be marked, for ourselves, for our lives, for that tiny throb inside the heart.

Because a heartbeat is where everything begins.
We hope you’ll travel with us.

Building on the momentum of 2023’s “Nanshan 60” initiative, the charitable funds raised have continued to support meaningful outreach through the 2024 Nanshan Dancing Train. After touring seven rural schools across Taiwan, B.DANCE and Nanshan once again joined forces to bring the magic of dance to an even broader audience.

From May 13–14, over 2,200 students and teachers from 31 schools in central and southern Taiwan were invited to experience the contemporary dance production ALICE at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts – Weiwuying.

This special performance not only sparked imagination and creativity through movement and storytelling, but also included an educational short film titled “Alice’s Fantasy Shopping Trap,” raising awareness about common online shopping scams. By blending art and social education, the initiative helped students recognize fraud tactics and strengthen their risk awareness in everyday life.

✦˖°⟡ About Flowing  ⟡˖°✦

“Flowing is a poem in dance form, about the coursing of time, human emotions, and life in general. It leads the audience in experiencing the beauty of flow, the musicality of change, the nimbleness of life.”

In Eastern cultures, the image of the koi carp represents wealth and auspiciousness, embodying people’s hope for a smooth life and a good future. Flowing employs the koi carp as its main image – one often seen daily in Taiwan, be it in the landscaping of koi ponds, or ornamental fish tanks – transforming everyday observations into a contemporary movement vocabulary.

Inspired by the koi carp ink paintings of Cai Jiu-Wu, and reinterpreting local folk traditions with elements of contemporary popular culture, the choreography interweaves reality and illusion, the aesthetics of the physical and the visual. The work uses the solar terms of the lunar calendar as its structure, depicting the passage of time and the endless cycling of all things: the dancers’ bodies at times change like flowing water, at times become a school of fish, exploring the rhythm of life between gathering and scattering, swimming in groups or alone – coming together and separating as humans do.

More than just a tribute to traditional culture, Flowing offers a contemporary perspective on time, human emotions, and life itself, sketching a lithe poem about about flow and movement, about change and connection.
