Reweave the web of relationships amidst the cracks of time, and dedicate it to those who have supported each other.
Tsai Po-Cheng is the artistic director of the Cheng Dance Production Team. His works have won 4 gold and 1 silver medals in choreography competitions in multiple countries, and he was selected as the best choreographer of the year in 2017/2018 by the German dance magazine. He has been deeply involved in the international dance scene for many years, connecting the world with his original energy. In 2024, he was recognized by the Taiwan-France Cultural Award, becoming a Taiwanese choreographer who has attracted international attention.
"The Net" is a new work launched in 2026 by Tsai Po-Cheng, the artistic director of the Cheng Dance Production Team. It attempts to respond to the division and turmoil facing the world today by using contemporary dance as a way to weave social memory and perception of reality. From graffiti on the streets of European cities to the silent mothers and children and the running of refugees in news footage of war, Tsai Po-Cheng deeply felt those seemingly distant but closely related realities and transformed them into a physical action that transcends language and borders.
The dance piece consists of five sections: "First Silk," "Entanglement," "Sinking Net," "Crack," and "Reweaving," which respectively symbolize the individual's journey from birth into relational entanglements, institutional repression, awakening of consciousness, and finally, the reweaving of social connections. The dancers' bodies intertwine like threads, forming visible and invisible nets on the stage, prompting the audience to reflect: How can we continue to weave a life net that can bear the future amidst mutual tension and rupture?
"The Net" is not just a dance performance, but a cultural statement, declaring that art is no longer aloof, but a contemporary texture that breathes with the land, people's hearts, and history. It is dedicated to all those who hold on to each other in the cracks, and invites the audience to become the line that is willing to hold the hand of others.
