Abyss, B.DANCE's tenth anniversary work, carries Tsai, Po-Cheng's signature interweaving and collision of Eastern and Western cultural elements — transforming human desire into the gravitational pull of the deep. Collaborating with Golden Horse Award-winning sound designer Lee Ming-Chieh, the work features a commissioned score that blends traditional Taiwanese instruments with post-modern electronic music, drawing forth the surging impact of something buried deep within the body. Stage and lighting designer Chang Ting-Chung employs the concept of a two-dimensional parallel dimension to construct a stage world of inverted deep-sea space — upside down, submerged. Briefly cast beyond the world's edge, we search for a faint and distant light buried at the bottom, stirring a thousand layered waves where philosophy and dance intertwine, etching a deep and lasting mark upon the heart.
