Flowing | 65min

In Eastern culture, the koi fish is a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, carrying within it humanity's hopes for the flow of life and a beautiful future. Flowing takes as its central image the koi fish — a familiar presence in Taiwanese daily life, whether in decorative garden ponds or ornamental aquariums — transforming these everyday observations into a contemporary dance language.
Inspired by the koi paintings of artist Tsai Chiu-Wu, the work reinterprets local folk culture through a contemporary lens, presenting through choreography an interplay of the real and imagined, the aesthetic of body and image. Structured around the traditional solar terms, the work portrays the passage of time and the cycles of all living things. The dancers' bodies shift like flowing water, then become a school of fish navigating between gathering and dispersal — exploring the rhythms of life, together or alone, as a reflection of the meetings and partings that define human existence.
Flowing is not simply a tribute to traditional culture, but a contemporary telling of time, human connection, and life itself — a light and lyrical poem about movement, change, and the ties that bind.
