B.OOM 2016
In October and November 2016, B.DANCE proudly presented B.OOM by B.DANCE at the Kuandu Arts Festival and the Weiwuying Arts Festival — a dance celebration two years in the making.
Initiated by B.DANCE Artistic Director Tsai, Po-Cheng, the project was driven by a founding conviction: rather than waiting passively for opportunity, create it yourself. After traversing 18 cities across Europe, the team successfully brought together five rising choreographers making waves at major international competitions — from France, Italy, the Netherlands, Israel, and Taiwan — uniting their award-winning works on an Asian stage for the first time, and injecting a fresh wave of international perspective into Taiwan's dance community.
Beyond the main performances, the program included four masterclasses and campus residency workshops, offering local dance enthusiasts and professional dancers the rare opportunity to exchange ideas and embodied experience with their international peers up close.
Program & Artist Lineup
Running approximately 60 minutes, the program brought together five short works of 10 to 20 minutes each. Drawing from personal lived experience, each choreographer released a distinct cultural imprint and a wholly individual movement language:
*Enfant* | Choreographer: Joeri Alexander Dubbe (Netherlands)
Winner of four awards at the 2016 International Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival Stuttgart, this work uses everyday physical vocabulary — running with hands over one's head, falling, embracing oneself — to evoke the innocence of childhood and the fearless courage to fail.
*Yours* | Choreographer: Idan Sharabi (Israel)
A three-time Gold Award winner at international choreography competitions, this work delves into the meaning of "home" and the feeling of belonging. Poet Anat Zecharya described it as work that "opens an entirely new era in dance."
*Grandmother* | Choreographer: Francesca Foscarini (Italy)
A portrayal of the fierce inner struggle against an aging body, this piece drew high praise from acclaimed choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui in 2013 for its technical mastery and emotional expressiveness.
*She* | Choreographer: Antonin Comestaz (France)
An exploration of the inner conflict and anguish that arises in the search for a sense of security within oneself. The work reached the finals of three major choreography competitions in 2015 and received the Production Award from the Rome Dance Association in Italy.
*Hugin/Munin* | Choreographer: Tsai, Po-Cheng (Taiwan)
Gold Award winner in Denmark and Spain, Silver Award in Israel, and recipient of production awards in Switzerland and Italy. Created for B.DANCE dancers Chang Chien-Chih and Chang Sheng-Ho, the work draws inspiration from the Norse mythology of Odin and weaves martial arts seamlessly into contemporary dance. This program marked the work's Taiwan premiere.

Concept of work
My body can't escape the past; the present is urgency. No one knows what will happen next. I can only conquer the darkness in my heart by following fleeting memories, the rhythm of my breath, and the glimmering light.

The laws of the universe seem to be constantly changing; nothing remains constant, everything changes: birth and death, day and night, the four seasons... What is now? Is it something that appeared then, but could happen again? Nature allows us to exist and witness different patterns of emotion. How should we accept the ever-changing reality while grappling with our pursuit of eternity?

Concept of work
For the past seven years, I've been exploring the role of "home" in my choreography. I interviewed different people about this theme, asking them: "What is home to you? How do you feel about home right now?" The original title of this dance piece was OURS, which meant that we share our home with the audience. But in the past year, I've experienced and learned a lot, and I've realized that home doesn't just belong to us. For me, the name isn't actually important. So I decided to add a letter to the original title, calling it YOURS, and dedicate it to you. Enjoy
