B.OOM 2023
The 3rd edition of B.OOM by B.DANCE returns with full force. This micro dance festival, conceived and driven by B.DANCE, invites the next generation of award-winning choreographers from Europe's most exciting contemporary scenes to come to Taiwan — offering audiences a rich encounter with the world's diversity. Through in-depth learning experiences, participants are invited to discover their own distinctive voice in dance. Professional masterclass workshops will also be held, creating space for professional dancers to exchange with international artists, expand their knowledge, and cultivate both global perspective and professional depth.
This edition is filled with surprise and plurality. The program includes Divergence by Chang Chien-Chih — a founding dancer of B.DANCE — a work that claimed Gold at the MASDANZA International Choreography Competition in Spain, a powerful testament to Chang's choreographic voice. UK-based choreographer Kwame Asafo-Adjei of Spoken Movement brings Family Honour, a work rooted in the dynamics between a father and daughter that took Gold at the 2019 Rotterdam International Choreography Competition. *The Guardian* praised the work for its "masterful theatrical effect through hip-hop." Also featured is Subdued by Brandon Lagaert, former dancer of Belgium's Peeping Tom, which received the Outstanding Performer Award at the 2019 Copenhagen International Choreography Competition.
For Old Times' Sake by emerging UK choreographer Phoebe Jewitt received the Jury Award at the 2021 Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. Rounding out the program, Italian choreographer Dario Dinuzzi joins forces with acclaimed dancers Mathilde Gilhet and Olivia Blanch in a new work, *After a Hunch*, and Artistic Director Tsai, Po-Cheng unveils a new short piece, Almost Human. One evening, six distinct artistic encounters — together igniting the full fever of dance this summer.

Kwame Asafo-Adjei
UK
Artist Info
Kwame Asafo-Adjei is a freelance choreographer who blends his hip-hop training with modern dance and his Ghanaian background to create a unique dance style, often emphasizing the development of Black culture. In 2018, this work won the Danse Elargie Choreography Competition, and in 2019, he won first prize at the Rotterdam International Choreography Competition.
Concept of work
"Family Honor" explores its eponymous concept through the eyes of a young girl trapped by surrounding moral norms, facing the question of "crimes" against tradition. Abandoned by her father, she seeks solace in memories similar to his. Inspired by a heated debate within the Kwame family, the performance transports the audience to a world where hip-hop is not merely intertwined with drama, but drama itself. How far must you go to uphold family honor—is it true honor or just another traditional taboo?

Brandon Lagaert
Belgium
Artist Info
During his time with the internationally renowned dance company Peeping Tom, Brandon Lagaert developed his own distinctive and iconic style through performances in works such as Vader, Moeder, Kind, and Dido & Aeneas.
Concept of work
It tells the story of a man, or more precisely, his body, experiencing the greatest challenges in the smallest tasks. The surrounding objects cause him to lose control, manipulating his mind and forcing his body to express these excessive emotions.
He struggles to understand what his body is doing, and the more he tries to control it, the less influence he has. This is also reflected in the audience, who witness a distorted body, exhibiting unnatural shapes.
When your body doesn't obey your mind's commands, even something as trivial as opening a bottle of water can be agonizing.
Some people speak in silence; some move in stillness.
My body moves and uses a language I've never learned to express what I cannot understand.
I may be suppressed, but my body is not.

Dario Dinuzzi
Italy
Artist Info
Dario Dinuzzi is from Italy and has participated in the Italian Aterballetto Ballet, the Canadian Ballet, Ballet BC in Canada, and the Lucerne Theatre in Switzerland.
Concept of work
Inspired by the English word "premonition," which can refer to both a feeling without evidence and a large tumor on a person's back, the choreographer imagined and created this poem based on his own premonitions. The script is the starting point and main source of inspiration for the dance movements, dynamics, and aesthetics. Actors Mathilde Gilhet and Olivia Blanch were asked to represent their own and each other's premonitions, creating the points of encounter and conflict. Beyond the metaphors of life's joys, what remains is the audience's premonition.

Concept of work
In what appears to be a duel, the two diverge along different paths, sometimes parallel, sometimes brushing past, sometimes overlapping, sometimes intersecting. Their relationship seems to be one of competition and antagonism, hovering in a state of uncertainty, gradually unfolding into a chessboard-like pattern. However, they ultimately merge into one, walking side by side in the same direction, as if in a dream. The "he" in this confrontation might actually be himself.
