February is when the first line begins to appear. After January’s quiet glow and patient waiting, the first true thread is finally revealed.

This month, I have been invited to serve as a judge for the Asia-Pacific Dance Competition. Across bodies of different generations and cultures, I witnessed dance in its purest passion and its future possibilities. Each evaluation, each moment of watching, became a return to my original intention. Dance is not merely the display of technique—it is a way of perceiving the world, a response to life itself.

February also marks a seasonal turning point. Amid celebrations and reunions, we exchange blessings and allow our bodies and minds to recharge. May every gathering bring warmth, and every pause become strength for setting out once more. This rhythm of stillness and movement, like breathing, prepares space for what is about to unfold.

After the New Year, our annual production, The Net, will officially begin rehearsals. February is named “First Thread” precisely because this work is not a single performance, but the core of an entire year’s thinking and action. What it connects extends beyond the physicality on stage—it encompasses concept, operation, themes, and every evolving relationship. When the first thread is drawn, it marks not only the start of rehearsal, but the first true grounding of the idea—the first moment it becomes visible, the first extension outward.

“First Thread” is not completion, but the birth of direction. Once this line appears, it is no longer imagination. It will continue to lengthen, intertwine, and respond—eventually becoming a net capable of holding more stories and encounters.

In February, we do not loudly announce a beginning.We simply let the first thread appear—and in doing so, give the future a point from which to connect.
